In honor of the 10th yahrzeit of Rabbi Armond E. Cohen, who served Park Synagogue as Rabbi from 1934 to 1986, and Distinguished Service Rabbi from 1986 to 2007, the congregation is invited to a Shabbat of learning and study with a special scholar.

Dr. Ellenson is a scholar of modern Jewish thought and history, and is widely recognized for his writings and publications in these fields. He has written extensively on the origins and development of Orthodox Judaism in Germany during the nineteenth century, Orthodox legal writings on conversion in Israel, North America, and Europe during the modern era, the relationship between religion and state in Israel, the history of modern Jewish religious movements, and American Jewish life.

Join us in welcoming Dr. David Ellenson, Director of the Schusterman Center for Israel Studies at Brandeis University, to Park Synagogue. Dr. Ellenson will be our Shabbat morning speaker discussing: Solomon Schechter and the Emergence of Conservative Judaism: Historical Background and Contemporary Implications.

 

Following services, the congregation and community are invited to join us for lunch and discussion with Dr. Ellenson on: American Judaism Today: Current State and Future Directions. 

 

Cost for lunch is $10 per person. Prepaid RSVPs due Monday, September 4 (no payment at the door).
