The Golden Age of Shlomo Katz

  • Roe Green Gallery at the Cleveland Jewish Federation Building 25701 Science Park Drive Beachwood, OH, 44122 United States (map)

Enjoy seeing and learning about the unique art of Israeli artist Shlomo Katz with exhibit Curator Matthew Garson. The exhibit is the first of Katz’s work since his death in 1992. Shlomo Katz was born in Poland in 1937 and immigrated to Israel as a young boy. His artistic talent was evident from a young age and he went to Paris as a young man to study art at the prestigious Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Inspired by medieval icons and oriental miniatures, Katz developed an original technique of painting by applying oil on top of gold leaf on a metallic surface, which he later translated onto paper. We will see 3 of these paintings in the exhibit. Katz was commissioned in 1985 to create nine large paintings for the chapel of the United States Air Force Academy. Attendees will also be able to watch “Shlomo Katz—A World of Symbols,” a film that chronicles the life and influences that led Katz to create his unique “Golden Style” of painting.

Free and open to all Park members and guests.
