Park Synagogue’s Sisterhood has united with other women’s groups at Park to form one vibrant, inclusive community – Women of Park.

Dear Women of Park,

As you may know, Park Synagogue formed Women of Park last year, uniting Park Sisterhood with our other women’s groups (Neshama and Women’s Rosh Chodesh) to form one vibrant, inclusive community for women of all ages. Since then, Women of Park has continued to build on a legacy of more than 100 years of affiliation with the Women’s League for Conservative Judaism (WLCJ)—an international organization offering connection, learning, and leadership opportunities for Jewish women everywhere.

We hope to keep Park actively involved in this amazing network with your help!

Through your membership with WLCJ, you’ll gain access to engaging Zoom programs, Hebrew classes for all levels, Bat Mitzvah study groups, regional and national conferences, and much more—all included with your membership of just $15 per year!

Your support ensures that Park remains a strong voice in WLCJ and the Central Great Lakes Region.     Shanda: A Memoir of Shame & Secrecy
    by Letty Cottin Pogrebin

    An intimate memoir from a founding editor of Ms. Magazine who grew up in a Jewish immigrant family mired in secrets, haunted by their dread of shame and stigma, determined to hide their every imperfection—and in denial or despair when they couldn’t.

    The word “shanda” is defined as shame or disgrace in Yiddish. This book, Shanda, tells the story of three generations of complicated, intense 20th-century Jews for whom the desire to fit in and the fear of public humiliation either drove their aspirations or crushed their spirit.

    The book is available in the Park Library and other area libraries.

  • Pre High Challah-day Tashlikh Program!

    August 25 • 5:00-8:00 pm • Park

    Join the Women of Park as we learn how to make our own round challah for Rosh Hashanah from Park member and challah maven, Susi Meisel! We will each prepare our own dough, before heading outside for Tashlikh while the dough rises. After Tashlikh, we will reconvene inside to enjoy a light dinner while we watch a braiding demonstration from Susi. We will wrap up the evening by braiding our dough into a round challah and getting it ready to take home to bake! The dough can be refrigerated overnight if you need to, and after baking, you can freeze your challah for Rosh Hashanah.

    Attendees will receive a recipe card to take home with their challah dough! Gluten-free option available.

    Park Members: $25

    Non-Park Members: $30

    Heart of a Stranger
    by Angela Buchdahl

    Angela Buchdahl was born in Seoul, the daughter of a Korean Buddhist mother and Jewish American father. Profoundly spiritual from a young age, by sixteen she felt the first stirrings to become a rabbi. Despite the naysayers and periods of self-doubt—Would a mixed-race woman ever be seen as authentically Jewish or chosen to lead a congregation?—she stayed the course, which took her first to Yale, then to rabbinical school, and finally to the pulpit of one of the largest, most influential congregations in the world.
