The Red House

Thirty years ago, Laura’s mother left her family and is never seen again. She left behind her purse, keys, and her mysterious paintings of a red house. Laura’s family never recovers from this mysterious loss. Decades later, Laura goes to Italy where her parents met after WWII, trying to find answers about her mother. With elements of true crime and revelations about Italy during the war, the novel describes Laura following her mother’s trajectory as she travels to Naples, Turin, and finally back home. Along the way, she confronts the dark truth of her mother’s story and at last makes sense of her own.
