The book group will be discussing

The Lies They Told by Ellen Marie Wiseman

Wiseman’s book is a historical novel about a young immigrant mother in 1930’s Virginia who fights against the eugenics movement after being unjustly sent to a state colony for the “feebleminded.” The story follows her struggle to reunite with her daughter and protect her community after she is accused of promiscuity and “feeblemindedness” to justify the state’s seizure of land and children.
