Mitzvah Day Fair in Davis Community Hall

10:00 am - 12:00 Noon

No Advanced Registration needed. Drop-in to help with one more projects! Volunteers of all ages welcome! Great Projects for Young Families!
Kids, fill your Mitzvah Day Fair Passport by helping with as many projects as you can!

Friendship Bracelets

Make string friendship bracelets that will be sent to Israel to let Israelis know that we are thinking about them.

Pediatric Activity Bags

Fill activity bags and make cards for young patients at Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital.

(Please bring small items, such as stickers, crayons, markers, small activity books, card games, picture books, etc. Must fit in one-gallon size Ziploc bag.)

Pet Toys

We want to remember our 4-legged friends in shelters by making fun toys for them.

Kindness Rocks

Paint and decorate Kindness Rocks to give to area nursing home residents to show them kindness.

Cards & Letters for US and Israeli Soldiers

Create thank you and supportive cards and letters for US and Israel Defense Forces soldiers.

Heart Pillows

Stuff heart-shaped pillows to give comfort to patients at Seidman Cancer Center at University Hospitals.

CPR and AED Training

Learn hands-only CPR and how to use an AED to save a life.

Flower Arrangements

Create flower arrangements & cards for Bikur Cholim Guest Houses which support families of hospitalized individuals.

Hunger/Food Projects

Bag Lunches for the Homeless

Prepare & pack bag lunches to feed people who are homeless. 1:30-2:30 pm at Park Synagogue. 20 volunteers, ages 6 & up needed. (no peanut allergies)

Volunteers will be asked to donate food for the lunches.

Friendship Soup for People in Need

Put together containers of dry ingredients to be used to make a hearty soup. 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at Park Synagogue. 8 volunteers, ages 10 & up needed.

Volunteers will be asked to donate ingredients for the soup.

Ronald McDonald House Dinner

Prepare dinner for families staying at Ronald McDonald House, 10415 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland. 3:00 pm to prep dinner, serve at 5:00 pm, and clean-up by 6:00 pm.

6-8 volunteers, ages 18 & up needed.

Trinity Cathedral Lunch

Set-up, serve & clean-up a hot lunch for people in need. 11:30 am - 1:00 pm at Trinity Cathedral, 2230 Euclid Ave., Cleveland.

7 volunteers, ages 15 & up needed.

Journey Center Dinner

Make part of a Sunday dinner at home for shelter residents at Journey Center for Safety & Healing, which serves families who have faced domestic violence. The food is made at your home and must be delivered by 2:00 pm to Wendy & David Firestone’s home in Beachwood. 5 volunteers/families of all ages are needed. Great family project!

Cookies/Brownies for First Responders

Make homemade cookies, brownies, bars at home to thank area police and firefighters for keeping us safe. Deliver baking in disposable containers to Park Synagogue between 9:00 & 10:00 am. Great family project!

Sorting/Packing/Delivering Projects

Care Bags for Cancer Patients

Assemble comfort care bags and decorate cards for cancer patients receiving treatment at Cleveland Clinic. 10:00-11:00 am at Park Synagogue. 8 families with elementary-age kids and other members welcome. Great family project!

Volunteers will be asked to donate some of the items.

Pack Welcome Bags for Hebrew Shelter Home

Help new residents of the Hebrew Shelter Home feel welcome by packing special bags of goodies and essentials for them. 1:00-2:00 pm at Park Synagogue. 6 volunteers of all ages needed. Great family project!

Volunteers will be asked to donate items for the bags.

Deliver Cookie Trays to First Responders

Deliver cookie trays to area police/fire departments. Pick-up the trays at Park Synagogue between 11:00 - 11:30 am. 6-8 volunteers/families needed. Great family project!

Restock Food in Bikur Cholim Hospitality Lounges

Many area hospitals have lounges for relatives of Jewish patients to go to relax and get a kosher snack or meal. Volunteers will pick up supplies at Park Synagogue and deliver them to one of the Bikur Cholim lounges at Ahuja, UH Main Campus, Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, Hillcrest, or MetroHealth at Severance. Pick-up supplies at 9:30 am at Park.

Need 5 individuals/families to volunteer.

Construction/Clean-up Projects

Construction/Clean-up Projects

Park is partnering with Habitat for Humanity to construct and paint a children’s playhouse for a family’s home built by the organization. It is helpful for volunteers to have some experience using tools and painting. Need 8 volunteers, ages 15 & older, per shift:

Shift 1: 9:00 am-12:00 pm or Shift 2: 12:00-3:00 pm.

Project will take place outside at Park.

Beautify the Historic Fir Street Cemetery

Help clean-up the Fir Street Cemetery on the westside, which is owned and maintained by Park Synagogue and is the second oldest Jewish cemetery in the Cleveland area. Volunteers will also plant flowers to beautify this historic site. 10:00 am-12:00 pm at 6015 Fir Ave. at W. 61st.

6-8 volunteers ages 10 & up needed. Carpooling is encouraged.

Miscellaneous Projects

American Red Cross Blood Drive

Give the gift of life by donating blood to the American Red Cross from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm at Park Synagogue. Unlimited number of donors needed, ages 17 & over. Please make an appointment at (216) 371-2244, ext. 161 or lgardner@parksyn.org.

Walk-ins also welcome until 2:30 pm.

Finish Heart-shaped Pillows

Sew the opening closed in heart-shaped pillows for breast cancer patients at the Seidman Cancer Center. 1:00-2:00 pm in the Park Synagogue Library. An unlimited number of volunteers who can hand-sew are needed.

JFSA Group Home Bingo

Help facilitate Bingo games for JFSA Group Home residents with special needs. 1:30-2:30 pm at Park Synagogue. 6-8 volunteers, ages 10 & up, are needed.

Pet Projects

Pet Visits with Residents of McGregor Home

Bring your docile pet to visit with and bring smiles to seniors living at McGregor Home, an assisted living facility. 1:00-2:00 pm at 14900 Private Dr., Cleveland Hts. 5 pets with owners/families welcome. Dogs & cats must be fully vaccinated & on a leash; bring shot record. Great family project!

Pre-Mitzvah Day Collection Projects

Before Mitzvah Day: Drop-off at Park Synagogue in plastic bins inside the front doors beginning April 1st.
On Mitzvah Day: Drop-off between 9:00 am - 3:00 pm (See exceptions)

Items for Cancer Patients’ Comfort Care Bags

Donations must be dropped off in bins before Mitzvah Day or by 9:30 am on Mitzvah Day. New, unopened, unscented products (lip balm, hand/body lotion, deodorant), refillable water bottles and light-weight fleece throws.

Items for UH Pediatric Activity Bags

Donations must be dropped off in bins before Mitzvah Day or by 9:30 am on Mitzvah Day. New, unopened small items that will fit in one-gallon Ziploc bags: stickers, crayons, markers, WIKI sticks, puzzle books, card games, puzzles, and coloring books, etc.

Items for Hebrew Shelter Home Welcome Bags

Donations must be dropped off in bins before Mitzvah Day or by 12:00 Noon on Mitzvah Day. Please donate NEW or gently-used washed towels and blankets, NEW fuzzy socks, hand/body lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes, gift cards for grocery stores, Target, and Walmart (DO NOT leave gift cards in bin. Please bring gift cards inside to Lynn Gardner in the Main Office during business hours or give directly to Ellen Petler or Angela Siegel.)

Diapers & Baby Care Items for Laura’s Home Women’s Crisis Center

Please donate diapers of all sizes (full or partial bags or boxes of diapers are welcome), and NEW diaper wipes, baby lotion, shampoo. etc.
